The ANIFPO welcomes all enquiries from members of the public
and the press and is pleased to offer the following pages that seek
to offer a perspective on a variety of current and future issues
affecting Northern Irish fishermen.
Since 2003 the ANIFPO, with financial assistance
from EU and UK, has launched a series of projects designed to improve
fisheries science and foster better relations between the fishing
industry and fisheries scientists in Northern Ireland. As part of
this work, in October 2006, 12 members of the ANIFPO, along with
Government officials visited Atlantic Canada and New England to
compare and learn from the experiences of fishermen on the Atlantic
coast of North America. Reports from these projects and visit can
be found in the Atlantic
Canada and New England page.
Along with other Northern Ireland fishing industry organisations,
the ANIFPO was a partner in the local “Fishing
Industry Tsunami Appeal”, which during 2005 raised almost
£25,000- in response to the Indian Ocean Earth Quake and Tsunami
on Boxing Day, 2004. The appeal adopted the village of Killai in
Tamil Nadu, SE India and during May 2007 Alan McCulla, CEO of the
ANIFPO visited India. The Northern Ireland
Fishing Industry Tsunami Fund page includes a report on this
visit.
